Nick Nurse on Kyle Lowry potentially being a head coach: 'Yeah, most definitely'

Asked about that Wednesday after 76ers practice, coach Nick Nurse agreed that Lowry could be a good head coach. “Yeah, most definitely,” Nurse said. “I think that he’s got a couple things that I would think would make him a good coach. He really loves the game. He really studies the game. He knows the game, and, obviously, he’s got a toughness level, right?

Daryl Morey on Paul George signing: It was definitely risky, but it was the best plan

“It was definitely risky, yeah, but it was also the best plan,” Morey said. “A risky plan doesn’t mean it’s a bad plan. It just could be the best plan. It was definitely the best plan.”

Morey began trade talks on a Harden deal with the LA Clippers by asking for George; he was rebuffed but undeterred. Always a maximalist, Morey lives by a simple approach to team building: get as many great players as possible, CBA constraints be damned. He set his eyes on his next star and the one he could pair with Joel Embiid as each seeks his first NBA championship, and the Sixers’ first since 1983. The idea was fraught with many chances for failure. Even Morey concedes now it was unlikely; he puts the initial odds of success at less than 50 percent. “We were taking what we thought was the best plan to keep ourselves in title contention, but it definitely was a risky plan,” Morey told The Athletic. “They don’t always work out, but we felt like all the other plans were worse.”

He’s talked about the light-hearted sessions, when necessary, alongside a prominently 26-and-under squad and the opposite of that while keeping a healthy balance between team bonding and reaching team goals. “It’s good. I’m just trying to learn from these guys. They’ve obviously had a lot of success here, and I’ve had success otherwise. For the most part, [I’m] just trying to learn the first couple of weeks that I’ve been here,” Caruso added. “They do keep it light. They all talk about the age difference. I’m not that old. But all these guys are really young. So, they have a lot of energy. They’re serious when it matters, but when it’s not, they keep it light. So, just trying to keep in line with them and find the rhythm.”

And so far, Redick likes what he has seen from Reaves defensively with both his effort and IQ shining through. “I never thought he was a chump defensively, but he competes his ass off on that end,” Redick said about Reaves. “He knows what he’s supposed to do. He’s in the right spots. If he’s supposed to veer, he veers. If he’s supposed to be the low man, he’s the low man. If he’s supposed to be at the nail, he’s at the nail. He just does a lot of really good things on the basketball floor.”
